Nebraska!!!!

This past week, we went to Nebraska, to the Pitzer Ranch horse sale.  They have a sale in the spring and in the fall.  Luke, Gini, Wyatt, Amber, and Grace,  Gibb, Becki, and Sammi,  Me, Jake, Hailey, Cody, Annie, and Jaycee,  and our Niece Oakley and our Nephew Kade, all went.  We started out on Tuesday at 12:00.  We had go down to drop off Brookley, Daisy, and Clancy at Grandma Becky's house.

We met up with the rest of the group at Smith and Edwards about 5:00 and of course they say lets make this quick, but whenever they go into Smith and Edwards, it is like a kid in a candy store.  We were there for about an hour and a half.  We get on the road about 7:00 and drive all night long to get there.  We made it to the ranch around 10:00, the next morning.  Wednesday, they have a little rodeo.  They have team roping, barrels and a course through the river and over some logs,  andthrough a gate.  The kids liked watching this event.

On Thursday, they gather all of the mares and their colts, about 300 of them and run them down the road and into the arena, to sort.

This started about 8:00.  Our Motel was an hour away, so we got up early every morning and went to bed late every night.

Here are the guys, checking out the colts.  They only had about 30 favorites, they were looking at, each!!!  It was so funny watching them get so excited over them.  They would call out to each other and say,  "Holy Freak, look at that one", or "Look at the head on that one, or" Look at the hip on that thing".  I think people were wondering where we came from.  LOL

That is alot of horses, and this was only half of them.  Jakes FFA teacher from high school and his wife,  Scott and Mitzi, live in Nebraska and they came to see us at the ranch.  It was so fun to see them and hear about there family and to talk about old times. 

So then they would seperate them into pens, about 15 mares and colts in one pen.  Then we would go through each pen and look at the colts, then they would go back through the pens and look at the colts again, they only did this about 8 times.  We finally broke for lunch, and then came back and went through the pens again and again and again.  They disected every pen and every colt, a hundred times!!!  LOL

Friday was the first day of the sale,  they sold 308 horses that day, colts, geldings, mares, studs........  The highest price colt was $10,000.  Saturday was the second day of the sale and they sold about 250 that day.  This is Cody's colt.

This is Jakes colt, plus he got a black one to, but we didn't get a picture of that one.  All together, between every one, we took a total of 9 colts home. 

The girls would spend there days down by the river. 

Sunday morning we looked in the phone book for a LDS church to go to.  We found one in Whitman, Nebraska.  It was just a branch and there was a total of 30 people there.  It was fun to go and see how they do it.  All in all, it was a fun trip.  But it is sure good to be back home.  They are already talking about going back next year!!
